In 2003 I fulfilled an ambition I'd had for many years
and built my own sports car. It is fashioned on the classic Lotus 7 design and the basic space frame, alloy panels and bodywork
were supplied by Westfield Sports Cars.
After arriving home with just the bare frame, a bunch of aluminium bits and other unfamiliar components,
I stood in my garage and thought what on earth had I done!
Nine months of scavenging through scrap yards, visits
to auto rallies and lots of fun, blood, sweat and tears later, it was completed and passed the SVA test (only just....err,
the noise level is a bit high sir...).
I won't go into all the detail but basically it is a 1.8L Zetec engine,
Twin Webber carbs, Racing Management System, Limited Slip Differential and produced about 156Bhp at the wheels.
The accelration was ballistic but top speed was limited by my nerves and the less than perfect aerodynamics of the scoop
front wings.
Sadly other priorities tookover and I decided to pass it on to another enthusiast. Still
great fun. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
